Narrative Intro

You are in 1954. It’s the final day of tramway service on Notre-Dame Street. After 57 years of operation, Montreal’s tramway will no longer travel this beautiful street. In recent years, the aging trams have struggled to compete with newer, more flexible bus routes.

You stroll down Notre-Dame Street, lost in thought, when suddenly you’re drawn to a dazzling light coming from the “Royal Alexandra,” an old neighborhood cinema. The theater is empty. Strange. The light is blinding. It’s coming from the screen of one of the halls. On the screen: a tramway. The closer you get, the more captivated you become. Slowly, you step into the screen. What’s happening? You board the tram, unable to will your body to turn back. You feel it start to move, and then… you pass out.

You awaken near what appears to be a market. There are stalls, people browsing and shopping. Their clothing looks… odd. Your head is pounding; you can’t remember anything—except the haunting image of that glowing tramway. What year is it? Where are you? Nearby, someone is slowly walking past you.

Then, you realize… you can see right through the woman standing beside you! Worse still, you’re a ghost yourself. Your heart begins to race. Oh, you poor soul, she says. You’re lost! I’m Aurélie, wife of Louis Boyer, once owner of much of the land in Lachine. See this street? Notre-Dame? It used to bear my name—Sainte-Aurélie Street.

She pauses and looks at you. You’re not the first. You’ve been pulled into a time rift. A great change is underway in your era, and sometimes cosmic energies get confused. As for me, instead of resting in peace, I’m stuck here, trapped in the 21st century. But maybe all is not lost for you.

You must recover your memory before the last tramway departs for downtown Montreal in one hour, or else you’ll be trapped in the future forever! Many have tried before, none have succeeded. But if you make it, you’ll break the rift and free the souls trapped here with you. Open your eyes. They may help you.

Thankfully, people from this century and those who came before you have left clues: on murals, on the ground, in parks… Use them to recover your memory. Be brave, you don’t have a second to lose.
